Winter Wonderland Christmas Cake

Hello, nice to see you again.

I hope you are looking forward to Winter and snow and making winter-inspired mini cakes, because in the last issue of 2021 of "Dolls House & Miniature Scene" magazine, I'll be showing how to create this dreamy winter wonderland cake from polymer clay.

If you guessed it from the clues in my last blog post, congrats! ^_^

What else is in this issue?

They have so many more projects in store for you in this issue! Starting with my and I quote "stunning" winter wonderland Christmas cake on page 20, they have not one, but two table centrepieces, in the form of a candelabra on page 34 and a modern festive tree, decorated with tiny baubles on page 48. The perfect additions to your seasonal scenes.

You will be amazed at the reader projects in this issue, the detail that went into making scenes inside sliced baubles is incredible – such an original idea by Conal Oakes! This year, he has made a scene from a book his wife loves – what a beautiful present to give.

Elsewhere, after 18 months Miniatura was back! With the world becoming more and more ‘normal’, Moi Ali was there to tell us what it was like.

All this, plus plenty more fascinating reads, competitions and more!

"Dolls House & Miniature Scene" magazine is available in print and digital format for you to read it on your favourite device, by following this link. Back issues also available.

Back to my Winter Wonderland Cake...

The cake was inspired by Stephanie Simmons' real "Winter Wonderland Cake". You may know her from her blog "The Blue Bowl Recipes" or her book "The One Bowl Baker" coming out in February 2022.

Her Winter Wonderland Cake immediately caught my eye while l was looking for inspiration to make a Christmas/Winter miniature cake and that was it. Not only is the cake beautiful, but I thought the way she made the rosemary pine trees was so amazing and creative! So I just had to make it.

In the magazine, I show you how to make the little pine trees from polymer clay to resemble rosemary sprigs, but...if you're looking to achieve a different look, say "sugar-paste-like" trees, I would recommend making them in the way I show you in my "Miniature gingerbread church scene" video.

The tree sculptures are at minute 7:14, but of course you're more than welcome to watch the whole video :)

I hope you enjoy my tutorial and that you make this wonderful cake; and if you do, we'd love you to share your recreations with us on Instagram and tagging us using @maiveferrando and @doll_house_miniature_scene, we love to see your work!

Seeing as this may be my last blog post of 2021, I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2022, which "numerologically" speaking (is that a word?), looks like it is going to be SOMETHING.

Whatever your circumstances are, however hard life may feel sometimes, know YOU GOT THIS. I always like to remember that the Universe never gives us anything we can't handle.

Thank you so much for reading and I'll catch you next time,

Love and doves,

Mai
