Collaborating with Katie Dean

Hello there!

I'm very excited to share with you my latest news!

I've been recently contacted by Katie Dean. Katie Dean is an amazing beading artist and teacher. She makes the most wonderful, intricate things out of beads including CAKES, yes, you read it right, CAKES!

You may know her already; she was a guest designer on Jewellery Maker and former editor at Bead & Jewellery Magazine. She has published several books about beadwork and she happens to love cake like me so one of her books is entirely about beaded cakes! There's only two pictures of her cakes here, but you have to see more, it's unreal.

Katie loved my book, Miniature Cake Creations, and wrote a lovely review you can read here and she was so excited by it that she has invited me to write a post for her blog about getting started with polymer clay.

The blog post is in three parts:

  • Polymer Clay for beginners

  • Essential Polymer clay tools and materials to begin

  • Polymer clay working, baking and tips

So, if you're new to polymer clay or if you're interested in reading what basic tools and materials I recommend, or if you'd like to learn a little more about baking polymer clay, head over to Katie's blog by clicking on this link.

If you want to get to know Katie and her work a little better and maybe attend some of her courses, these are her links:

You can find her Sweet Treats book of beaded cakes here.

In case you missed it:

  • My first polymer clay book, Miniature Cake Creations, came out on 7th October and as the title suggests it's all about how I make my miniature cakes. You can find more about it on my blog post and purchase it here.

  • A few months ago I worked on a "Witch's Cauldron Cake" tutorial for the October issue of Doll House & Miniature Scene magazine. You can find more information about it on my blog post and get a copy of the magazine (physical or digital) here.

Thank you for reading and I'll catch you next time,

Love, Mai
